EY 1 (Mr Rafael) 

Today, we had a fun day! We started our circle time with fun songs that got the kids moving. For our theme, the kids completed worksheets on picture patterns and color-by-number activities. After lunch, we went to the playground. Then, we had a mini carnival in the gym! The kids enjoyed playing bowling, target games, and sticky ball bullseye. They also won prizes like stickers and balloons. We had so much fun today! See you next week for our Halloween celebration!

今日は楽しい一日を過ごしました！サークルタイムでは、子どもたちが体を動かしながら楽しめる歌を歌いました。テーマ学習では、絵のパターンを完成させるワークシートや、数字に合わせて色を塗るアクティビティに取り組みました。昼食後は遊び場へ行き、その後、体育館でミニカーニバルを開催しました！ボウリングやターゲットゲーム、ボールを的にくっつけるゲームなどを楽しみました。また、シールや風船などの景品ももらいました。今日もみんなでたくさん楽しみました！来週のハロウィンイベントでまた会いましょう！

EY 2 (Ms Guitar)

This week, we continued learning about carnivals and talked about the activities we can enjoy at a carnival. We practiced answering questions using the sentence patterns “Yes, I can” and “No, I can’t.”During Language Focus Time, we learned about the short vowel sound O and practiced recognizing the differences between words containing O and those with other short vowel sounds.For Fun Learning, we joined the EY1 class for a carnival fun fair in the gym. We tried different game booths, including a duck pond, ball darts, and a rubber band shooting game. After playing the games, we had the chance to win some small prizes!

EY 3 (Ms Cindy)

Today in EY3, we started the day with some English games and icebreakers. We have been working on expressing ourselves using common phrases such as “I am…,” “I like…,” and “My favorite…”. For Language, we focused on words in the “an” word family and read and discussed a book by Jory John called The Good, the Bad, and the Spooky. This book teaches children how to recognize and deal with negative emotions. It was a beautiful day, so we went outside for a nature walk and enjoyed some outdoor playtime. After lunch, we learned about carnivals and made pencil and toy holders. We look forward to seeing everyone next week for Halloween!

We began the day with news about autumn leaves changing color and a Pikachu toy traveling to the International Space Station. Students discussed gravity and floating in space. They also learned about the new Suica mascot and voted for their favorite design. In Language Focus, we started Unit 7, “Materials.” Students learned vocabulary such as fabric, paper, wood, stone, and metal. Through worksheets, a crossword, and Sculpture Detectives, they practiced describing objects using the question “What is it made of?” In the afternoon, each student decorated a Suica mascot design, gave it a name, and described it in English.

一日の始まりには、秋になると葉の色が変わることや、ピカチュウのぬいぐるみが宇宙飛行士とともに国際宇宙ステーションへ行ったというニュースを取り上げました。子どもたちは、重力や宇宙空間で物が浮くことについて話し合いました。また、新しいSuicaのマスコットキャラクターについて学び、お気に入りのデザインに投票しました。 Language Focusでは、Unit 7「Materials（素材）」をスタートしました。fabric（布）、paper（紙）、wood（木）、stone（石）、metal（金属）などの語彙を学びました。ワークシートやクロスワード、「Sculpture Detectives」のアクティビティを通して、「What is it made of?（それは何でできていますか？）」という質問を使い、物の素材を英語で説明する練習をしました。午後は、一人ひとりがSuicaのマスコットキャラクターのデザインをデコレーションし、名前をつけて、英語で紹介しました。

We played the AGO card game to warm up. After snack time, we continued Unit 5 of our textbook, reviewing different occupations. Then, we had a lot of fun in the gym and even played tug-of-war! After lunch, we cut out and colored clown faces for Halloween as part of our thematic learning.

Today, we talked a lot about carnivals and fairs in different countries. We watched some videos about famous carnivals and discussed the costumes, music, parades, and floats, as well as how we could create a festive atmosphere for our own carnival.

In Language Focus, we learned about the Boston Tea Party and how the British imposed excessive taxes on tea for the American colonists in an effort to pay off debts incurred during the Seven Years’ War with France. We learned how the protest led to a series of events that eventually triggered the American War of Independence.

Today, the children learned about Carnival, the fun activities people can enjoy, and the costumes people wear. We also watched a short video clip about Carnival, which the children enjoyed. We played cup stacking and bowling, giving the children a chance to practice their hand-eye coordination. For our Language Focus, we learned about the letter E. For the theme worksheet, we did a color-by-number activity. After lunch, we went to the gym and had a great time playing with children from the other levels. Everyone enjoyed playing at the gym. To end our day, the children made their own Carnival masks. They had so much fun decorating and creating their colorful masks! See you again next time!

This week, we started a new topic: Carnival. We watched a video of Peppa Pig at a fun fair and talked about what we could see at the fairgrounds using the sentence pattern, “I can see…”. After that, we shared with our friends whether we had ever been to a fair or ridden any of the rides before. During Language Focus Time, we learned the vowel sound I and compared it with the vowel sounds A and E. We then practiced choosing the correct vowel sound for each word. For Fun Learning Time, we reviewed shapes and tried to build different shapes using LEGO bricks. For our craft activity, we made merry-go-rounds.

We had a good day in EY3. We played English games, had Literacy activities, and read the fairy tale “The Gingerbread Man” in the morning. The weather was beautiful today, so we went outside for Theme Time, where we played carnival games and had some bubble fun! In the afternoon, we practiced writing three-letter words in our notebooks and had Arts and Crafts, where we created toys out of recycled materials. The kids had great imaginations! We made a computer, a telescope, a Halloween house, and a jewelry box, just to name a few.

EY3では、今日も楽しい一日を過ごしました。英語のゲームやLiteracyのアクティビティに取り組み、午前中は「The Gingerbread Man」のおとぎ話を読みました。今日はとても良い天気だったので、Theme Timeは外で行いました。カーニバルゲームで遊んだり、シャボン玉遊びを楽しんだりしました！ 午後は、ノートに3文字の単語を書く練習をしました。Arts and Craftsでは、リサイクル素材を使って自分たちのおもちゃを作りました。子どもたちは素晴らしい想像力を発揮していました！コンピューターや望遠鏡、ハロウィンハウス、ジュエリーボックスなど、さまざまな作品を作りました。

This week, the children made hand puppets based on the friendly creatures from their homework stories. They drew and colored the faces on paper templates, turned them into hand puppets, and then used their puppets to tell their stories aloud to the class. In Art Unit 6, “Sculptures,” we read pages 14–15 together and learned how artists make sculptures from materials such as stone and wood using hammers and chisels. We also learned new vocabulary, including sculpture, hammer, chisel, stone, wood, and material. The children completed the Unit 6 workbook activity, including true-or-false sentences and writing the new vocabulary words, and then practiced the vocabulary through a sculpture crossword. To finish the day, they made and decorated their own Halloween hat bands.

Today, we started by playing AGO, the English conversation card game. After snacks, we had a two-team spelling contest using the vocabulary from last week’s lesson. Then, we went to the gym to run around and have some fun! After lunch, we played two-team charades and finally went to the library to read some books.

今日は、まず英会話カードゲームのAGOで遊びながら、英語でのコミュニケーションを練習しました。スナックタイムの後は、先週のレッスンで学んだ単語を使って、2チームに分かれてスペリングコンテストを行いました。その後は体育館へ行き、思いっきり体を動かして楽しみました！昼食後は2チームに分かれてジェスチャーゲームを行い、最後には図書館へ行って本を読みました。

In the Language Focus class, we learned about how chocolate is made. We followed the process, from harvesting the raw materials in jungles to the factories. We discovered that vanilla and sugar are added to lessen the bitter flavor of dark chocolate. In the Theme class, we had an introduction to carnivals, fairs, and festivals in other countries.

Today was the last Saturday of September, and our theme was Toys! During circle time, the children introduced themselves by sharing their names, ages, and things they like. We had fun playing the “What Is Missing?” toy card game. The children looked carefully at the cards and tried to remember them. Then, while they covered their eyes, the teacher removed one card. They had to identify which toy was missing. This was a great activity for memory, observation, and concentration. Since it was raining, we stayed indoors after lunch and watched a short social-skills video, “No, David!” The children enjoyed watching the story and learned about good behavior. During Fun Time, they had lots of fun with a toy-balancing relay. They balanced a toy on the back of their hand while walking to the relay point. This activity encouraged hand-eye coordination, balance, and motor skills. To finish our day, we made a spinning-top craft. The children enjoyed creating and playing with their own spinning tops. This week, we practiced using prepositions to make full sentences using toy vocabulary. We played a game where we found hidden toys in a picture and described where they were using prepositions. During Language Focus Time, we compared the vowel sounds A and E and practiced recognizing the differences between them. For Fun Learning Time, we read the book Should I Share My Ice Cream? and learned about the importance of sharing. After that, we shared LEGO bricks with our friends and used them to build ice creams in paper cones. Since it was the Moon Festival, we made moon-shaped suncatchers with a rabbit.

Today, we talked about the Mooncake Festival and learned about its legend during the morning meeting. For our Language Focus, we reviewed the “ap,” “am,” and “an” word families through a covering game and enjoyed three different stations featuring CVC activities. We also practiced making sentences using this week’s sight word. After lunch, we did some movement exercises. Then, we worked on our rabbit lanterns together with PY5.

This week, PY4 started Unit 5, “Colours,” and talked about the typhoon in eastern Japan: what a typhoon is, how weather differs from climate, and how to stay safe. We also spoke about the design of buildings in Japan to withstand earthquakes. A lot of the children love building, and they created some amazing building-block structures! The children also learned about Halloween. It began as a harvest festival, and lanterns were once made from pumpkins. We spoke about different celebration festivals around the world and played a detective game with images of different costumes and masks. They practiced asking yes/no questions in English. We made a samurai origami hat and then spoke about the Halloween hats we will be making next week. I did a demonstration of writing a short story, and the children used the vocabulary from this term’s units to invent a friendly Halloween character. They will write a short story about it at home.

今週、PY4ではUnit 5「Colours（色）」をスタートしました。東日本で発生した台風について学び、台風とは何か、天気と気候の違い、そして台風の際にどのように安全を守るかについて話し合いました。 また、地震に耐えられるように設計された日本の建物についても学びました。建物を作ることが大好きな子どもたちは、ブロックを使って素晴らしい建物を作りました！さらに、ハロウィンについても学びました。ハロウィンはもともと収穫祭として始まり、かつてはカボチャを使ってランタンが作られていたことなどを学びました。世界各地のお祭りについて話したり、さまざまな衣装やマスクの写真を使った探偵ゲームをしたりしました。英語でYes/Noで答えられる質問をする練習も行いました。 サムライの折り紙帽子を作った後、来週作る予定のハロウィン帽子についても話しました。 短いストーリーの書き方を先生が実演し、子どもたちは今学期に学んだ単語を使って、親しみやすいハロウィンキャラクターを考えました。自分で考えたキャラクターについて、家で短いストーリーを書く予定です。

Today, we focused on “ck” and “nk” in our reading and writing section, with words such as duck, back, chicken, pink, tank, and bank. We burned off a lot of energy at the gym, and after lunch, we wrote about the toys that make us happy in our notebooks. Then, we went to the Art Room to make some rabbit lanterns!

今日はReading/Writingの時間に「ck」と「nk」の音やスペリングに注目し、duck、back、chicken、pink、tank、bankなどの単語を練習しました。体育館では、たくさん体を動かして元気いっぱい遊びました。昼食後は、ノートに「自分を幸せな気持ちにしてくれるおもちゃ」について書きました。その後、Art Roomへ移動し、うさぎのランタンを作りました！

In the Language Focus class, we learned about “Victory Gardens”—the vegetable gardens American people grew during World War II to support the “war effort.” We talked about farmers’ markets and how to start and maintain an organic garden, as well as planting according to the cycles of the moon. In the Theme class, we came up with ideas to design “a toy from the future.”

We started our day by singing songs with lots of fun body movements. For our theme activity, we played a memory game using toy cards, which was a great way to practise our memory and concentration. We also did a Letter C craft and went on a Letter C hunt using a worksheet. After that, we went outside to play and enjoy some fresh air. When we came back, we had a fun classroom mission to find hidden cards around the room! Whenever the children found a card, they said, “I found it!” To end our day, we made a fun spaceship craft using straws and two strips of circular paper. See you next week!

Today at Saturday School, we started the day by talking about our feelings, followed by songs about the days of the week, months of the year, and the weather. We then learned about prepositions such as in, on, behind, and under, and practised short vowel sounds, focusing on the A and E sounds in words such as leg, bed, and hen. After lunch and recess, we got creative by painting the clay toys we made last week, which was a fun way to finish the day!

Today in EY3, we started the day with some English games and songs. We learned that many of the students love to sing and dance! In Language, we read a passage about a fat cat named Pat, and we also learned three-letter words from the “ap,” “am,” and “an” word families. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so after lunch, the students went outside to play! Then, in the afternoon, we had Theme Time, exploring different toys from around the world. We also made teddy bears out of craft paper. It was a very fun day!

We learned about Silver Week and Respect for the Aged Day (敬老の日). In Language Focus, we explored lines and shapes, practised new vocabulary from our Oxford reader, and created animals using basic shapes. The children then used “feeling colours” to colour their drawings and explained their choices in English. To finish, we played a Detective Game using six artworks and yes/no questions.

Today, we started by playing Slam! using some new language cards. Later, we studied our readers, learning about different types of sports and talking about which sports we like to play. We also had some quiet reading time in the library. After lunch, we had lots of fun in the gym.

In today’s Theme class, we looked into the materials used and the processes involved in manufacturing toys. We discussed the impact of technology and the Industrial Revolution, traditional craftsmanship, and the shift from analogue to digital, as well as the transition from small-scale operations to mass production. In the Language Focus class, we learned about carnivorous plants such as the Venus flytrap. The students also taught me about some different species of insect-eating plants that I had not encountered before. Clever kids! To finish the day, we picked out several new games to play from the school’s huge game resource area and enjoyed a variety of them. A great day!

今日のThemeでは、おもちゃに使われている素材や、おもちゃがどのような工程で作られているのかについて学びました。テクノロジーや産業革命が与えた影響、昔ながらの職人によるものづくり、アナログからデジタルへの変化、そして小規模な生産から大量生産への移行などについて話し合いました。Language Focusでは、ハエトリグサなどの食虫植物について学びました。子どもたちは、先生がこれまで知らなかったさまざまな食虫植物の種類についても教えてくれました。さすが、みんな物知りですね！一日の最後には、学校にあるたくさんのゲームの中から新しいゲームをいくつか選び、みんなでいろいろなゲームを楽しみました。とても充実した一日でした！

EY 1 (Mr Rafael) 

Today, we reviewed our theme, Toys. We shared our favorite toys and played a memory-matching game and Four Corners. For Language Focus, we sang the alphabet and worked on our A and B worksheets. After lunch, we played at the park and practiced a fire drill. Everyone did a great job! We finished the day by making and playing with cup-and-paper-ball kendamas. See you next week!

EY 2 (Ms Guitar)

This week, we continued talking about toys and chose our favorite ones. We also read the book Not a Box to learn about prepositions. During Language Focus Time, we started learning about vowels and phonological awareness. We practiced recognizing which words have each vowel sound. After recess, we practiced our evacuation drill. During Fun Learning Time, we did a LEGO tower counting activity, where we matched each number to the correct number of LEGO bricks. For our craft activity, we used paper clay to build our favorite toys.

今週も「おもちゃ」について話し、お気に入りのおもちゃを選びました。また、前置詞を学ぶために『Not a Box』という絵本を読みました。

Language Focus Timeでは、母音と音韻認識について学び始めました。それぞれの母音の音が含まれる単語を見分ける練習をしました。休み時間の後には、避難訓練の練習も行いました。 Fun Learning Timeでは、LEGOのタワーを使った数のアクティビティに取り組み、数字と正しい数のLEGOブロックを組み合わせました。クラフト活動では、紙粘土を使ってお気に入りのおもちゃを作りました。

EY 3 (Ms Cindy)

Today, we started our day with some icebreakers and games to get to know each other better. Our theme for this week is “Toys,” so we read a classic story about a little teddy bear named “Corduroy.” We then practiced retelling the story using our English words. In Literacy, we studied words with “an” in them and practiced writing three-letter words. In the afternoon, we explored toys from around the world by playing with the famous toy from Denmark, LEGO! We also started a craft activity in Art, making teddy bears out of craft paper. Have a great weekend, everyone!

PY4 (Sub teacher - Ms Amanda)

We started by discussing the natural disasters that happened around the world last week during our Class Meeting. Then, we had library time, followed by Language Focus, where we explored what artists draw when they draw animals. Before lunch, we had a challenge to read the paragraph aloud, one by one. In the afternoon, we had our evacuation drill, and everyone did a really good job. Finally, we had our STEM project combined with art. We used magnets and pipe cleaners to make our own toys.

まず、クラスミーティングで、先週世界各地で起きた自然災害について話し合いました。その後、図書館の時間を過ごし、続いてLanguage Focusでは、アーティストが動物を描くときにどのような表現をしているのかについて学びました。昼食前には、文章を一人ずつ声に出して読むチャレンジにも取り組みました。午後は避難訓練を行い、みんなとてもよくできました。最後に、Artと組み合わせたSTEMプロジェクトに取り組みました。磁石とモールを使って、自分たちのおもちゃを作りました。

PY5 (Mr Simon)

Today, we played AGO to practice our English Q&A skills, as we usually do first thing in the morning. After snacks, we completed a couple of pages from the workbook. Then, after lunch, we went to the gym to have fun and burn off some extra energy, followed by cool-down time in the classroom. We also had a fire and earthquake drill, which everyone handled quite well.

今日は、いつものように朝一番にAGOで遊び、英語でのQ&Aスキルを練習しました。スナックタイムの後は、ワークブックを数ページ進めました。昼食後は、体育館へ行き、楽しく体を動かして元気いっぱい遊びました。その後、教室でクールダウンの時間を過ごしました。また、火災・地震避難訓練も行い、みんなとても落ち着いて上手に取り組むことができました。

PY6 (Mr Julian)

We continued with the theme of “Toys” and talked about why some toys remain timeless and popular decades after their release, and how some have been replaced by modern technology and mass production. We compared the students’ favorite toys from when they were younger with their favorite toys now.In Language Focus class, we learned about Mt. Rushmore, a monument featuring the faces of four U.S. presidents carved into granite on a mountainside in the American Midwest.

引き続き「おもちゃ」をテーマに学び、発売から何十年も経った今でも人気があり、時代を超えて愛されているおもちゃがあるのはなぜかについて話し合いました。また、現代のテクノロジーや大量生産によって、以前のおもちゃの一部が置き換えられていることについても考えました。子どもたちが小さい頃に好きだったおもちゃと、現在好きなおもちゃを比較しました。Language Focusでは、ラシュモア山について学びました。ラシュモア山は、アメリカ中西部の山の花崗岩に、4人のアメリカ大統領の顔が彫られている記念碑です。

EY 1 (Mr Rafael) 

It was great to see everyone, including our new friends for the fall term! Everyone had a lot of fun today. During Circle Time, the children enjoyed singing and dancing. Since our theme is toys, they shared their favorite toys by saying, "I like [toy]." We also sang the ABCs and reviewed the alphabet. After lunch, we played on the school grounds and made a craft using forks, inspired by the movie Toy Story. See you all next week!

秋学期が始まり、新しいお友達も含めてみんなに会えて嬉しかったです！今日はみんなで楽しく過ごしました。サークルタイムでは、歌ったり踊ったりして楽しみました。今学期のテーマが「Toys（おもちゃ）」なので、「I like ～.」という表現を使って、お気に入りのおもちゃを紹介しました。また、ABCの歌を歌いながらアルファベットの復習もしました。昼食後は園庭で遊び、映画『トイ・ストーリー』に登場するキャラクターをイメージして、フォークを使ったクラフト制作をしました。また来週会いましょう！

EY 2 (Ms Guitar)

Since today was the first day of the fall term, we introduced ourselves to our friends and played some icebreaker games to get to know each other better. In this term, we will mainly be talking about happiness, so we started by learning about toys. We learned some new vocabulary related to toys and observed which toys we have in the classroom. We also shared which toy we like the most and practiced using the sentence pattern, "I like..." During Language Focus, we reviewed all 26 phonics sounds and played a phonics fishing game to practice sound recognition. For Fun Learning Time, we went to the library and enjoyed reading books. For our craft activity, we watched some Toy Story videos and made Forky from the movie.

今日は秋学期の初日だったので、自己紹介をしたり、アイスブレイクゲームをしたりして、お友達のことを知る時間を楽しみました。今学期は「Happiness（幸せ）」を大きなテーマとして学んでいくため、まずは「Toys（おもちゃ）」について学習しました。おもちゃに関する新しい単語を学び、教室にあるおもちゃを観察しました。また、一番好きなおもちゃについて紹介し、「I like...」の文型を使う練習もしました。

Language Focusでは、26個すべてのフォニックスの音を復習し、音を聞き分ける練習としてフォニックス・フィッシングゲームをしました。Fun Learning Timeでは図書館へ行き、それぞれ好きな本を読んで楽しみました。クラフト活動では『トイ・ストーリー』の動画を見て、映画に登場するフォーキーを作りました。

EY 3 (Ms Cindy)

We were happy to welcome everyone to EY3 for the fall term! We started our day by getting to know each other with some icebreakers and English games. We then read a story by Alexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman titled All Are Welcome. At the end of the morning, we watched a PowerPoint presentation on what we will be doing this term. In the afternoon, we explored toys from around the world and made passports to document our toy exploration! We also went outside for playtime and danced to "Danny Go!" It was a fun day, and it was wonderful to welcome everybody to Saturday School this term.

秋学期、EY3のみんなを迎えることができて嬉しかったです！一日の始まりには、アイスブレイクや英語ゲームを通して、お互いのことを知る時間を楽しみました。その後、Alexandra PenfoldさんとSuzanne Kaufmanさんによる絵本『All Are Welcome』を読みました。 午前の最後には、今学期に行う活動についてのPowerPointを見ました。午後は世界のおもちゃについて学び、おもちゃ探検の記録を残すためのパスポートを作りました！外遊びも楽しみ、「Danny Go!」に合わせてダンスもしました。 楽しい一日となり、今学期もみんなをSaturday Schoolに迎えることができて嬉しく思います。

PY4 (Ms Lenna)

We started by introducing ourselves and began our Language Focus with a new book about art. We explored our interests in art and drawing, created a quick drawing, wrote a sentence about it, and shared our artwork with the class. After recess, we explored this term’s theme by watching a video about toys from around the world and discussing happiness. We also shared the foods that make us happy. After lunch and outdoor recess, we continued exploring art through Pablo Picasso’s The Crying Woman and Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. We discussed how artists use colors, shapes, and lines to express different emotions.

自己紹介からスタートし、Language Focusではアートについての新しい本を使って学習しました。自分が好きなアートや絵について考え、簡単な絵を描いて、それについての文章を書き、クラスのみんなに作品を紹介しました。休み時間の後は、世界のおもちゃについての動画を見ながら、今学期のテーマである「Happiness（幸せ）」について考えました。また、自分たちを幸せな気持ちにしてくれる食べ物についても紹介しました。昼食と外遊びの後は、Pablo Picassoの『The Crying Woman（泣く女）』やVincent van Goghの『Sunflowers（ひまわり）』を通して、さらにアートについて学びました。アーティストが色や形、線を使ってさまざまな感情を表現する方法について話し合いました。

PY5 (Mr Simon)

Today we started the day with introductions. Then we warmed up by playing AGO, an English card game, which the kids seemed to enjoy. We did a couple of pages of Unit 4 of the workbook, mostly listening and pronunciation practice. "Threw" was a tough word for most of them to pronounce. After lunch, the new theme was introduced: Happiness. They answered the question, "What makes you happy?" and illustrated their answers. We ended the day by getting some exercise in the gym.

PY6 (Mr Julian)

Welcome back, everyone! Today in the PY6 class, we started the new theme, "Happiness," for the fall term. We compared toys that were popular in the past with toys of today. In the Language Focus class, we learned how butterflies have powder on their wings, which they use for camouflage and for wing balance when flying.

みなさん、おかえりなさい！ PY6では、秋学期の新しいテーマ「Happiness（幸せ）」について学習をスタートしました。昔人気だったおもちゃと、現在のおもちゃを比べました。Language Focusでは、蝶の羽についている粉のようなものについて学びました。この粉は、蝶が身を隠すためのカモフラージュや、飛ぶときに羽のバランスを保つために役立っていることを知りました。
